"Boots, books still on West Texas columnist's bucket list, but it's almost too late" - The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal

"...As for the second item on my West Texas bucket list, shocking at it may seem, especially when one considers my voracious appetite for books, I never have read even one of author John R. Erickson’s “Hank the Cowdog” books, all illustrated by Gerald L. Holmes.

I know, now there are 66 printed books and another seven audio versions.

And don’t bother telling me these are children’s books. Good reading is good reading. I’m pretty sure that Harry Potter was, at best, pushed toward young adults and older youths when he first arrived.

I have the feeling that a lot of parents have used their non-reading children as an excuse to enjoy these stories about a dog who views himself as the Head of Ranch Security for the M-Cross Ranch..."
