Wednesday, September 24, 2014

Hi Y'all!

Here's a great story from the Victoria Advocate about John R. Erickson's recent visit to some schools in Goliad, TX. From the article:

The series follows the life and antics of the canine, who Goliad students, parents and teachers got to know better Tuesday night when the author spoke and performed at Goliad High School.

Erickson's visit was made possible through the Goliad Education Foundation and grants teachers applied for. Tuesday's visit was Erickson's second in Goliad in four years.

Hank's adventures include investigating a murder, wrangling a bull and recovering after swallowing a fish hook. Erickson brought Hank to Goliad High School on Tuesday night before an audience of parents, students and teachers to promote the series and highlight the fun that comes with reading.

"I will never eat another fish hook," Hank the Cowdog, voiced by Erickson, sang Tuesday. Erickson performed songs, read excerpts and reminisced about growing up in a small town. The series has more than 60 books associated with it, depicting Hank's adventures and giving young readers a relatable experience through literature.

"It's been a heck of a way to make a living," said Erickson, who's from Perryton, a Panhandle community. "I get a lot of wonderful fan mail."
